The best clothes steamer to steam curtains is a powerful upright model with a large water tank. Features like continuous steam output for extended use, various attachments for different fabric types, and a telescoping pole for reaching high-hanging curtains. While handheld steamers can work for spot treating, a sturdy upright steamer provides the consistent power and reach necessary to effectively smooth out wrinkles and refresh large panels of fabric, making your curtains look their best with minimal effort.
My Top 5 Clothing Steamers For Curtains
I tested eight clothing steamers to determine which can effectively steam clean a curtain. Each steamer was tested on cotton and linen blend curtains and evaluated on its wrinkle-fighting powers, ease of use, and overall value. These are my top 5 picks.
None of the handheld steamers made the cut, primarily due to its limited water supply tank. Curtains require a good amount of time and use a lot of water. Most Professional Steamers have an average 64-ounce water tank, whereas a typical handheld steamer has a 6-10-ounce capacity.

I was impressed with this steamer. It took about 45 seconds to heat up and could steam consistently for 90 minutes; always keep an eye on the water level and never let any steamer run out of water. Overall, the Salav Heavy Duty performed very well; It quickly de-wrinkled the cotton curtains easily. The linen-cotton curtains required a few extra passes but also removed the wrinkles.
The Salav Heavy Duty is constructed well. It has a removable water tank, making filling the sizeable 3-liter tank easy. The accessories included are a plus, pants press, fabric brush, mini ironing board, and two hanger clips. I didn’t see any optional steam head besides the

Best Value – Pure Enrichment PureSteam Pro
The PureEnrichment PureStream Pro received the Best Value because of its four steaming levels, the sizeable 2-liter water tank, and the full hour of continuous steam. It packs a punch for its lower price point.
Initially, I was skeptical about this steamer as I’ve read negative reviews stemming from the lack of steam if the hose gets kinked and poor steam output. I did not experience those issues in the 6 months I used the Pure Enrichment PureStream.
The PureStream is not as powerful as the Jiffy J-4000, nor is Salav heavy-duty at its highest setting. But it did de-wrinkle the cotton and linen curtains well; it just took longer with several more passes. It also did a fantastic job with cotton shirts and quickly de-wrinkled silk blouses.
Lastly, the foot controls are an innovative and convenient feature. The first level controls humility ; the 2nd is for quick and easy short-sleeves and blouses; 3rd level is for polo-type shirts and sweaters; and the fourth level 4 is for heavier fabric like curtains and suits.
What I liked ♥
- Fast Heat-Up: It heated up pretty quickly in about a minute.
- Easy to Use: Straightforward controls
- Telescopic Pole
- Good Value:Good price point compared to higher-end models.
What I didn’t like :
- Moderate Steam Output: Took longer with more passes to de-wrinkle the curtains.
- Plastic Housing: I prefer aluminum for its longevity
- It needs more clips to help keep shirts taught

Best Features – ROWENTA IXEO
The Rowenta IXEO received the “Best Features” place because of its built-in 3 position 65 “ironing board. The ironing board can be moved 180 degrees and is height adjustable, allowing me to drape the curtains on the iron board and create crisp creases on the curtains.
The Rowenta IXEO has a heavy base, which makes the steamer feel sturdy on the floor. It also has a comfortable area to set the steam head down when needed. The steamer with its 1500 watts, heated up quickly and was ready to go in 45 seconds. The iron is not continuously steaming; you need to squeeze the button on the back to get the burst of steam, which is excellent when you need that intense burst of steam.
Lastly, it comes with brush attachments, which are great for removing pet hair and lint. The steamer also has an anti-scale system, which is great for its longevity.

-
- All-in-One Functionality: I love its use as a steamer and iron.

What I didn’t like:
-

- The iron board could be sturdier: I felt the ironing board wobble a little.
Weight: 19.4 lbs | Water Tank Capacity: 34 oz | Heat Time: 45 seconds | Steam Time: 60 minutes | Power Level: 1500 watts
Best Portability – Conair Turbo ExtremeSteam
The Conair Turbo EstremeSteam received “Best Portability” because of its small footprint. It’s small and fits in any corner and has a telescoping pole.
The EstremeStream has two settings and automatically pauses the steam when the steam head is placed back in its cradle. The steam output is good, not as powerful as the Jiffy J-4000, but it was able to remove the wrinkles from the cotton and linen blend curtains well. It required more passes to remove it from the linen blend curtains.
Filling the steamer is easy. Simply remove the water tank, fill with distilled water, and return the tank to its base. Press the switch with your foot to turn on the unit. Has an auto shut off after 30 minutes, which I love.
It comes with a few attachments; I liked the bristle brush the most, as it is excellent for pet hair. The other attachments are a silicone band, fabric spacer, and a creaser.
Lastly, it has an anti-calcification filter, which is excellent for the life of the steamer.
