How To Clean An Iron

I’ve had my Rowenta iron for years and it is a fantastic iron. After awhile though, all that ironing will lead to buildup of mineral deposits and some grime. To keep it running smoothly and ensure those wrinkles don’t stand a chance, regular cleaning is key. Don’t worry; it’s super easy! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to clean your Rowenta steamer.

Why Should You Clean Your Steamer?

  1. Keeps It Running efficiently: Over time, minerals from the water can build up inside your steamer. This will lead to decreased performance and even damage down the line.
  2. Prevents Clogs: Those little steam holes can get clogged with scale, which means less steam and more wrinkles!
  3. Hygiene Matters: A clean steamer is a happy steamer! Regular cleaning helps to prevent mineral buildup and keeps everything fresh.

For the Rowenta Steam Iron pro you will need to clean:

♥ Calc Scale Rod

♥ Sole Plate

♥ Water Tank

If your iron does not have a Calc Scale Rod, then skip that step.

What You Will Need

  • Few Towel and rags
  • White vinegar (normal kitchen vinegar)
  • Water
  • A descaling solution (optional, but useful if there’s a lot of buildup)
  • Container

Let’s clean the Rowenta Calc Scale Rod

  1. Unplug Your Steamer: Safety first! Make sure it’s unplugged before you get going. Make sure the iron is cool.
  2. Empty the Water Tank: Take the water tank out and dump out any leftover water.
  3. Remove Calc Scale Rod

Clean an Iron’s Sole Plate

Method 1:

Dampen a soft rag with distilled white vinegar, and wipe the soleplate to remove the gunk. If residue remains, soak a rag in distilled white vinegar and lay the cool iron soleplate on the towel and let it soak for 30 minutes. Wipe away the remaineder with a clean towel.

Method 2: – Using the Rowenta Iron Sole Plate Cleaner ( This is what I use ) and best to use it on your ironing board.

• Empty Iron of water

• Plug Iron in electrical socket

• Set Iron to the Hottest setting

• Get an old towel

• Apply two inches of cleaner to the old towel

• Rub hot iron in a circular motion over the cleaner several times ( you will see smoke)

• Flip the towel and use clean side, continue rubbing the hot iron on the clean towel until the sole plate is cleaned.

Note: If the sole plate still have stains, repeat the process above.

Clean Iron Water Tank

• Empty Water Tank

• Fill the Water Tank half way with Vinegar only

• Plug Iron and set to highest setting

• Get Towel

• Rub iron on towel and press steam, keep rubbing untill all the vinegar is used.

• Fill the Water Tank 3/4 with distilled water

• Flip towel to clean side

• Rub Iron while pressing steam until all distilled water is used

Wipe Down the Exterior: With a damp cloth, give the outside of the steamer a good wipe to remove dust or any residue.

Dry Everything Off: Finally, use a clean towel to dry the steamer, especially around the steam holes.

A Few Tips

  • Empty the Iron After Use: If you leave water inside your iron, it could begin to rust and that rust will transfer to your clothes and damage the iron.
  • Use Distilled Water: Will help minimize mineral buildup.
  • Clean Regularly: Make cleaning your steamer a part of your routineevery couple of months should do the trick.
  • No Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using strong chemicals or scrubbing pads; they can damage the steamer.

Taking a little time to clean your steamer will save you hassle in the future and make sure you’re getting the most out of this handy appliance.
